The Golden State Warriors (English: Golden State Warriors, abbreviation: GSW) is an American professional basketball team located in San Francisco, California, United States. It belongs to the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the NBA League. Its home arena is the Chase Bank Center. The team's motto is "The whole team is a city". The Warriors are one of the few teams in today's North American professional sports leagues whose name does not include the city of their home stadium. This is because in 1971, the team wanted to use Oakland in Northern California and San Diego in Southern California as dual home stadiums, so they took the nickname California. "Golden State" is named to represent the all-California team. The Warriors, formerly known as the Philadelphia Warriors, were founded in 1946 and were one of the league's founding teams. They won the league's first season championship in 1947. In 1962, the team moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and was renamed the San Francisco Warriors; in 1971, the team was renamed the Golden State Warriors. In 1972, the team moved to the Oakland Coliseum, just across the bridge from San Francisco. The team moved back to San Francisco for the 2019–20 season, and its new stadium is the Chase Center. The team has won a total of 7 league championships. In the 2015-16 season, the Golden State Warriors achieved 73 wins and 9 losses, becoming the team with the best single-season regular season record in NBA history, breaking the Chicago Bulls' record of 72 wins and 10 losses in the 1995-96 season. In the 2018 Finals, they swept the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0 to win the NBA championship for the first time in a row. After three seasons, they defeated the Boston Celtics 4-2 in the 2022 Finals to win the NBA championship again.
