The Phoenix Suns (English: Phoenix Suns, abbreviation: PHX) is a professional basketball team located in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. It belongs to the NBA Western Pacific Division. It is the only team in this group that is not in California. Its home stadium is the Trail Center.
The Suns were founded in 1968 (the NBA expanded another team in Milwaukee that year), and the team's initial performance was mediocre. But in the 1975-76 season, the combination of Dick Van Arsdale, Alvan Adams and Paul Westphal successfully advanced the Suns to the championship game, eventually losing to the Boston Celtics. This was considered One of the NBA's most unpopular records. After failing to reach the championship, the Suns in the 1980s relied on Walter Davis as the foundation for reconstruction until they acquired Kevin Johnson through a trade in 1988.
Steve Nash returned to the Suns in 2004. The team played an active style of play with Nash, Amar'e Stoudemire and Shawn Marion. Not only did it return to the top of the playoffs, it even tied the team's winning record in the 2003-04 season. However, the Suns still could not overcome the high wall of advancing to the championship game and were forced to enter reconstruction again.
A total of 10 players inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame have played for the Suns. Among them, Charles Barkley and Steve Nash were awarded the Most Valuable Player during their playing years.
