The New Orleans Pelicans (English: New Orleans Pelicans) are an NBA basketball team located in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. They belong to the Southwest Division of the Western Conference and their home court is the Smoothie King Center. The current owner of the team is automobile industry tycoon Gail Benson, and the current head coach is Willie Green. The New Orleans Pelicans were formerly known as the New Orleans Hornets, which was renamed when the Charlotte Hornets moved to New Orleans in 2002. In 2005, due to the severe damage caused by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, the team moved its home court to Oklahoma City for a time. It did not return to New Orleans until 2007. In April 2013, the team was renamed the current New Orleans Pelicans. In 2014, the team returned the original Charlotte Hornets name and season records from 1988 to 2002 to Charlotte, and the Charlotte Bobcats took over.
