The Washington Wizards (English: Washington Wizards) are an NBA basketball team located in Washington, District of Columbia, United States. They belong to the Southeast Division of the East and their home stadium is Capital One Arena. The team was founded in 1961 as the Chicago Packers and was renamed the Chicago Zephyrs a year later. It was later changed to the Baltimore Bullets. In 1973, the team moved to Washington, D.C., and was renamed the Capital Bullets. In 1974, it was changed to the Washington Bullets, and won the team championship in the 1977-78 NBA season. The only NBA championship in history. In 1997, due to the serious proliferation of illegal guns in Washington, D.C., the owner at the time believed that the name of the Washington Bullets was too violent. In order not to be associated with the high crime rate in the area, he decided to change the team's name to the Washington Wizards (Washington Wizards). The team is also the team with the most name changes in the NBA, using a total of six team names.
